Nearly a decade into the 21st century, the commercial real estate industry is finally entering a new era.
And this one has little to do with the credit crisis. Yes, it’s still a relationship business, but there’s no
doubt the industry has matured; just look at how many centers of higher learning offer it as a course
of study.
Along that vein, Real Estate Forum decided to dedicate much of this issue to examining the future of real estate—specifically, those professionals destined to become the leaders of the industry in the coming years, along with the tools and innovations that are helping them do business and close deals. In our third annual “Tomorrow’s Newsmakers,” we profile 35 rising stars in the industry under the age of 35. Having received well over 100 nominations of young talent, all of whom had incredible accomplishments, choosing just a handful proved to be a daunting task. And, in a slight departure from the past two years, we begin the roster with a section titled “Leadership Parallels,” where we spotlight not only five standout young professionals whose achievements, determination and future potential promise to keep them in the headlines for years to come, but also the mentors who influenced their careers. As much of the business world has taken technology to new levels, it seems like commercial real estate is finally catching up. In our Reader Survey, over 2,300 respondents sounded off on whether online networking tools have a place in our sector or if this is just a passing fad. |
